Proposed Core Skills Occupation List for the New Skills in Demand Visa

Highlights

The Skills in Demand Visa (SID) will replace the Temporary Skills Shortage (subclass 482) Visa later this year, 2024. One of the significant highlights of this change will focus on the Core Skills Pathway whose occupations will be defined through the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL).

Currently, CSOL is still under review and a scoring system guide will decide on the occupations that shall be included or excluded from the list. To give you a clear picture of the current draft, we sorted out the occupations that will surely be on the list, occupations that will be off the list, and occupations under consultation.

Jobs in the proposed Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL)

The (CSOL) takes into account the Skills Priority List, which categorizes occupations based on their scarcity in the Australian labor market, assessing both current and projected demand for each occupation. Additionally, it considers various factors such as the initial labor market performance of migrants, the extent of reliance on sponsored skilled visa holders compared to employment scale, vacancy statistics, and the availability of domestic labor supply.

How to prepare?

As the new Skills in Demand Visa is expected to commence later this year, 2024, you must remember these things to avoid visa application errors:

  • Research: Clearly understand the specific criteria for your selected pathway. As of 22 April 2024, here are the only criteria for the Core Skills Pathway:

  • Documentation: As the Skills in Demand Visa replaces the 482 visa, both programs will likely have similar requirements. Thus, it is essential to prepare any necessary documents ahead of time.

  • Health & Character Requirements: Make sure you meet health and character requirements. To qualify for this visa, you must provide documentation such as a medical certificate and police clearance to prove your eligibility.

  • Ask for assistance: If you are having a hard time planning your pathway to Australia, the best thing to do is ask for assistance from certified migration experts. Although it’s not required to hire one, it is wise to have an expert help you in these complex situations.
