What’s New: Australia to Launch the Vocational Degree
In an exciting update to the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF), the government has announced a brand-new addition: the Vocational Degree. This degree aims to meet the growing demand for industry-specific, hands-on skills and will open new doors for international students who prefer practical learning experiences.
What is a Vocational Degree?
The Vocational Degree will be delivered at the same AQF level as a Bachelor’s Degree, but with a focus on applied skills and practical knowledge. Students can expect:
Hands-on training (including apprenticeships)
Industry-driven curriculum
Recognition across Australia and beyond
It’s being developed by Australia’s TAFE Centres of Excellence and Jobs and Skills Councils to align directly with national workforce needs.
Why Is This Important for International Students?
If you're aiming to study and stay in Australia, the new Vocational Degree can provide:
High employability: Gain qualifications that are already in demand across multiple sectors
Pathway to Graduate Visa: Vocational Degrees are expected to qualify for the Post-Study Work stream (485 Visa)
Boosted PR prospects: Practical skills and local qualifications are highly valued in Australia's skilled migration points system.
✍️ This new qualification could become a strategic choice for students who want more than just a diploma, but a clear pathway to a career and future in Australia.
