The Department of Immigration has announced that Singapore will be added to the list of Work and Holiday subclass 462 visa eligible countries. The option of a long validity, multiple entry visitor visa for Singaporeans to visit Australia will be introduced – an extension of the current one-year visa. This will be targeted at frequent short term travellers to Australia.
This measure is also in line with the Department’s move to include the state of Israel as one of the eligible countries for visa 462. A holder of a state of Israel passport does not need to provide evidence of government support for grant of this visa. This commences on 1 June 2016.
The Work and Holiday arrangement will make available 500 places in each country per year with the potential for growth in future years. This move brings Australia’s overall Working Holiday Maker visa programme to a total of 39 partner countries.
The new visitor visa arrangement will further boost tourism and business links between Australia and Singapore and allowing for a longer validity period will encourage repeat visits and align with the Government’s agenda to reduce unnecessary red tape. The Department will continue to work closely with its counterparts in Singapore to implement the arrangements as soon as possible.
We anticipate further information on these visa options will be released in due course.
