Think Visa is an Australian-based migration service that helps people from all over the world, but one thing we’re especially good at is helping people migrate between China and Australia.
We have a strong appreciation for both countries, and we believe that when people exchange places, they help to improve the cultural, political, and social understanding between different nations.
If you are considering moving from China to Australia, Think Visa is the perfect Chinese migration agent in Melbourne to help you achieve your goal.
However, there are important things you’ll need to know. We’ll briefly describe some of the most important things here, but keep in mind that rules and conditions do constantly change, and it’s always best to get in touch with us directly and talk to one of our immigration consultants for advice.
Visiting Australia for tourism
If you are travelling as a genuine tourist, it can take up to 33 days for your visa to be granted, and that is if you do a perfect job of submitting the necessary documents and information. Any errors can delay the process even more. This is one reason why it’s always a good idea to have assistance from Think Visa. As your Chinese migration agent in Melbourne, we help you avoid those problems that could delay your visa approval.
An exception is if you are travelling as part of a tour group, under what is called the ADS scheme. You will still need to apply for a visa, and the cost isn’t any less, but it can be processed more quickly. This type of visa is not recommended if you want freedom to explore the country or if you are wanting to stay for a longer duration, as it is much more restrictive than a general visitor visa.
Visiting Australia for business
If you are visiting for business purposes, you could expect the process of obtaining an Australian visitor visa to take between 9 and 20 days. It is fairly straight-forward, but you may need to supply additional details about your planned business activities, and some applicants are asked to provide proof, either at the point of application or at the point of entering Australia.
Visiting Australia to visit family
If you are being sponsored by family, this usually takes the most time to get a visitor visa, because more details will be checked. This usually takes between 50 and 70 days to process, so again you can see it is a good idea to make the application well in advance of your planned travel dates.
Visiting Australia to obtain medical treatment
This does not require a Visitor visa, but rather a Medical Treatment visa. You can apply for this visa if you are the patient or if you are accompanying the patient. The first thing you will need, if you are travelling as a patient, is a letter from a doctor indicating you have been accepted or invited for a medical consultation in Australia.
This visa only allows you to stay until the treatment or consultation has been completed, so you won’t be able to see much of Australia if you are travelling on this visa.
Visiting Australia to study
Australia provides excellent study opportunities for Chinese nationals. It is important when applying for study opportunities to carefully check the credentials of the institution you plan to study at. Make sure the school is accredited, because even though accreditation is a voluntary process, it can seriously impact how Australian border security officials think about the course you’re enrolled in.
Always make sure you know the name of the school or college, where it is located, and what subjects you will be studying while undertaking study in Australia. If you seem confused or uncertain about your education plan, it can make border security officials feel that your intentions may not be genuine.
Most students on education visas are eligible to work part time. There are limits on the number of hours you can work on an education visa. Finding suitable work can be a challenge, but if you look for opportunities related to your field of study, you are more likely to find success.
There may also be job opportunities working on campus, with positions available in gift shops, supply stores, libraries, cafeterias, and so on. Again, if you are studying in a particular field, it can improve your chances, even in finding work on campus.
Visiting Australia to work
There are multiple ways to get permission to work in Australia, but as you might imagine, it is much more difficult to get this permission than it is to get an ordinary Visitor visa or an Education visa (which may allow you to work part time).
The Work and Holiday visa is the easiest to qualify for, because you don’t need any special skills and you don’t need a sponsor. This visa is only available to people aged between 18 and 35.
The next easiest class to qualify for is the Skilled Worker visa, which allows you to travel to Australia and undertake work in a field where you have a particular skill that is on a list of approved skills or occupations. Most applicants will need to have sponsor lined up already before travelling to Australia, and this can be difficult to arrange.
Unskilled temporary workers are sometimes allowed into Australia to meet demand for unskilled workers where there is a shortage and employers are not able to fill the jobs locally. These jobs generally tend to be in the agricultural industry, especially fruit and vegetable harvesting.
Moving to Australia permanently
Getting permission to move to Australia permanently can be very difficult if you don’t have help from a migration agency such as Think Visa. Normally you’ll need to be a refugee (the most difficult path by far), have family already living in Australia, or have special skills that make the government want to import you (if you’re a doctor or a star athlete, for example). The other path is to marry an Australian citizen, but this does not guarantee you can become an Australian citizen yourself.
While it is indeed quite difficult if you don’t fit any of these categories, it is not necessarily impossible either. Talk to your immigration agent and find out the options you have.
