The Department of Immigration and Border Protection introduced a new visa stream for the subclass 188 Business Innovation and Investment visa, the Entrepreneur visa (188D) in September 2016, which gives new options to business owners and innovators.
This is as a result of a low number of applications for the 188C (Significant Investor Visa) due to changes in compliance requirements. As a result, there have been higher numbers of applications for the 132 (Business Talent Visa) in the period from July to November 2016, a trend that is unlikely to abate in 2017. It remains to be seen whether the introduction of this new visa stream will influence overseas investors and business owners to consider options outside of the 132 (Business Talent Visa).
